Seeking legal work

Hi Reeco

Yes, I was wondering the same thing!

I would like to get into any area related to property or commercial law. Interested in family law too as well as estate planning etc.

Maybe if click my heels and say Peter Mericka 3 times he will appear :)

Yes there is a program or site that tracks when someone is saying something about you. It then alerts you(usually through twitter) and like magic they appear to put the stomp on potential threats.

As a lawyer it doesnt surprise me that he does this. Sueing for slander would scare the bejesus out of me. Its been done already with his exact form of stalking/listening/watching. A realestate agent(raywhite? dont quote me...or sue me :) ) did this recently when someone slandered there property. Something about rats or being infested..In any case because the person used there name in twitter(Doh!) they were tracked and b****h slapped (sued). Apparently the property sold for less and blamed said poster for possible loss of income.

Im pretty sure they(REA) got a ruling in there favour...Wish i had bookmarked that link dag-nabit. Its a interesting read

I have signed my company up to Google Alerts, that way we know who is talking about us. It's pretty useful. Not sure about instantaneous notification though...... usually it's delayed a few days.

Id love to know what program you used that flagged your name over the interwebs peter?? How did ya know i was whispering your name i wonder? I know theres a program that does it so color me curious. You pounced on my reference lickity split:eek:

lol it's called Google....
His side of things raises some interesting points, though he seems rather hysterical about it.
He's a lawyer, so lawyers should rule the world and can do anything, just ask him. Yet most lawyer's customers will tell you they are a scourge on society.
And though he proposes to rid the RE industry of "shonky practices" I wonder what he's doing to rid us of lawyer's "shonky practices", but hey that ain't the sales pitch is it.
And in my experience, just about all of the many lawyers I know (and know of) have been and still are not very good investors.
Though they are good income earners with many creative "6 min block" methods.

lol ...

Our REA told us our accountant charges in 4 min block

Hubby has strict instructions not to waffle on which is difficult for a person with the nick name of 'Have a chat'.

.

Who types there name into google everyday?? I believe it would be google alert. You can get some spiffy info from that.

I like how he came to sell his business at the whiff of an oppportunity.

Never a nice thing solicit something on SS. A solicitor soliciting. Go figure:)

I don't think it could have been google. Peter came on here too soon. Google still hasn't picked this thread up either. It takes time for things to appear in google.

Maybe Peter had been a lurker and seen his name mentioned.

lol of course it's on google.

Hi Terryw

Getting back to your orginal question, I was in the same position as you many years ago (except that I was in Melbourne and at that time, Victoria still had articles of clerkship so most lawyers had no idea what I was talking about).

I ended up getting my practical experience by intially going through one of the temp agencies and getting some casual paralegal work and after a while I was in a relatively stable position and could ask the employer if they were willing to sign the relevant paperwork. Luckily for me they agreed so

If you haven't already done so, you might think about trying the same route.

A quick search of google indicates Mr Peter Mericka is a busy man.

He is a lawyer and consumer advocate

He is a mortgage broker doing solicitor financing

He is a reverse mortgage consultant

He has a conveyancing company

I found 7 ads online still listing him as REA despite the fact that the judgement against him acting as REA was handed down on 27 March.

He definitely wouldn't have time to stop for lunch keeping all those balls in the air.

Sure they have time for lunch, many lawyers bill in 6, 15 or 30 minute increments

There's more than twenty four hours in some people's days :D
