I love watching the shows, but the vendors always seem to pay for the improvements, nothing provided FOC other than the expertise and labour of the team, and any labour from friends and family. Staging and paint supplies might be provided free or at a discount in exchange for the advertising - suppliers are obvious
It would not say that they always get a good return on their money, often less than 2:1, sometimes only improving the property to a sale-able condition rather than increasing value .......if you know what I mean.
I do laugh at the vendors who were unrealistic in the first place re value, and once renovated to meet that value have now set a new unrealistic expectation and back where they were with a house which won't sell. I'ts still television, but frustrating for the team not to see a win for everybody.
By the way, I ran into Shayna's daughter the other day while having a drink with some friends around the corner, small world. My Block T-shirt prompted her to approach and ask if I worked on the show as she was working on the next series in Melbourne - again in Melbourne as councils were easier to deal with and more welcoming to them than in Sydney.
