Train Lines and stations close to house?

What do you guys think of buying properties close to train lines?

We just bought a PPR that we intend to turn into an IP in about 5 or so years and it is directly opposite a train line, however there are nice trees that block the view of the train line but you can still occasionally hear the train go past.

The station is about a 5 minute walk from the house and is zone 1 in Melbourne, so we think in about 5 years time it will be a great little renter due to fuel costs rising and being very close to the city.

Only issue we can see is how well it might sell opposed to other properties in the area being so close to trains.

Can trains and stations be a good thing or a bad thing?
