Travel Agents

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good travel agent?

Yuch and I wish to go to Japan and are keen to find referrals for accomodation etc.

I mainly use www.accomline.com for hotels, including Japan.

Where exactly are you planning to go? Check exactly where the hotel is in a place like Tokyo as the hotels can be located in 'Shinjuku' and be miles away from the station.

If you're travelling to a few cities consider buying a JR rail pass.

Unfortunately MrswW is no longer a travel agent.

But just a pointer to look out for.

Many people will shop around on air fares, choosing the cheapest- and then accept other add ons unconditionally. But something like travel insurance, for instance, can earn the travel agent just about as much as the commission on the air fares (and even that commission is declining rapidly now).

Before you accept a travel agent's insurance, check out what NRMA (or equivalent) can offer online. When MrsW was working for a travel agent, she went on a private trip- and found NRMA online travel insurance was better than what she could get- discounted- from her own agency.

Why even go to an agent? If you have the time available, do some research yourself- you may be able to work out for yourselves what you want to do, how to get there, and how much it costs.

Like many things, it depends on your own time vs the amount you which to spend.

There's a few Japanese forumites- you may be able to meet up.
