What impact does the equity loan have on the economy?

Has anyone noticed the lack of equity loan ads in the last couple of years?

From where I am it seems like the equity loans have dried up and therefore the average Joe doesn't have enough cash to keep the economy ticking over.

Thoughts people?

Car sales are down.
Furniture sales are down.

Cheers

Bit hard for the banks to be advertising to spend $$$$ on yourself
whilst the reporters are highlighting possible mortgage defaults
especially before the last rate rise (and possible pending future ones if the tax rates encourage growth or the international money market tightens)

Boom times aren't here and the banks need to be more conservative
as the valuations aren't skyrocketing as they were previously.

I'm guessing possibly the babyboomer market and the retirees with
the reverse mortgage will be their next big push

cheers

very true quoll - hadn't noticed until you pointed it out, but there seems to be very little bank advertising right across the board.
