what kind of incentives to places use to lure people to gamble with them?

Does anyone know what kind of gambling incentives different places use to lure people to gamble with them.

I would think just reading the ads will answer this question, people running a large betting business would closely monitor the result of various ads used.

Back in the day when we had less than nothing to our names (and not long after pokies were allowed to pop up in in pubs and clubs in Qld), we got kicked out of a gaming lounge for drinking the free coffee and gorging on free biscuits and lollies without feeding the pokies in return.

I wish Qld held the line like WA and stopped poker machines from embedding themselves into our neighbourhoods, but thems the breaks I guess.

Beyond free food, there's also loyalty cards/programs, drink/meal vouchers, lucky prize draws. Most places even have a separate entrance to the gaming lounge so you can make a discreet entry/exit without having to walk through the rest of the pub/club.

Pokies are illegal in WA and i wish they weren't.

I've no desire to gamble, but it helps the pub / hospitality businesses earn some money, and they don't have to charge as much for food drinks.

Have fun getting a $30 steak and an $11 pint.

Was paying that (and sometimes more) in Queensland before the boom times ended. Pubs will charge as much as the market will bear and maximise their profits.

Yeah, $30 is starting price for a steak in the pubs around here and that is at places with Pokies. I don't know what a beer costs but I would be charged $9 for a tiny squirt of wine in a glass when I know I can buy an entire bottle of the same wine outside at Dans for $16. Even the RSL seems to charge the same meal and drinks prices as pubs, to its members.

That's one of the few item that under Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen's Government Policies kept the pokies out of Qld ,I think it worked well there is nothing more SICKENING then watching people gamble $1000.00 at a time,i have a tenant he works hard ,saves up 5k then go to the local football club and blows the lot,and it take no one% to get him in that door..

The Casinos will offer free food, accommodation, transportation, live shows, , parking, cars and the like according to your level of spending.

I'm happy to pay more for my food and drink if it means we don't have pokies in every corner and as someone who isn't a gambler at all they wouldn't directly affect me. Filthy things.

Are you sure about those margins? Seems excessive, you'd expect a $16 wine to be around $7 or so a glass

Not 100% certain of course. Remember a $16 bottle at Dans, say a Taylors 2012, would usually cost more at other stores. (afaik)

What I am certain of is when I go to have a glass of wine at any establishment, the $7 drinks are usually the likes of Jacobs Creek, brands I wouldn't touch if they were the last brand left after the Apocalypse. The high-end restaurant in my area (not attached to one of the pubs) sells bottles for about $40 and glasses start at $9 and go up from there. No pokies in this restaurant, thank God, and on Monday nights all mains are $25. I believe our average income (the customers) is lower than Perth's. It was at the time I visited there a couple of years back. Invstor might know more.
