When would you use a Financial Planner?

There are some genuine FPs out there but they are easier to find as "fee for service" model. We have already discussed commission based FPs here.
Unfortunately, people do baulk at the price this fee is and head back to other type.

What is amazing that we here of people who visit one FP and then sign up. But they would get three quotes to build a retaining wall or build a house.

After changing accountants and working with a new solicitor, I looked at and meet with a range of professionals to get an idea. Formal meetings as well as buying a coffee for a chat or two. It really opened my eyes to what is available and questions I should be asking myself and professionals I engage.

Cheers

There are no commission based financial planners anymore because all upfront and trail commissions are prohibited. Every financial planner would charge a fee. This would be based on either:
1. Time spent
2. fixed fee
3. total amount advised on

or a combination of the above.
