Who is your favourite Aussie band

Well, most skinheads aren't Nazis. Just like any group of people, only a small subset of skins are White Power knobs. Movies like Romper Stomper and the media just perpetuate the idea that all skinheads are racist.

Trad skins and SHARPs (that's Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice for those that don't know) might be violent and thuggish, but they aren't racists. I've known plenty of skinheads in my life, who have been pretty decent dudes.

Where do you get your information from? Varg may have dropped the National Socialist label, but he still very much identifies with White Power/Pure Aryan Blood views. From an essay he wrote in 2005:

“A Scandinavian, for instance, has no good reasons to emotionally react negatively to "Nazism"… German 'Nazis' behaved exemplary in Denmark and Norway during WWII… In Norway only about 0.03% of the population was killed (and the vast majority was actually killed by the Allies).”

Varg Vikernes, The Nazi Ghost, July 2005.

All he's done is change the label from National Socialist to Odalist, in reference to moving back to Scandinavia's Pagan roots. His views are still very much rooted in racist and fascist ideas.

Here is some more from The Nazi Ghost, which I just d/led from his website:

So, since I am not a "nazi" I began to use another term, in the late 90ies. I did it not just to avoid confusion, but also to find a term more suitable and accurate than the other terms I had used. This new term was odalism, from Norse óðal ("homeland", "allodium", "allodial law", "nobility", "noble", "inherited goods", "fatherland", "land property", "distinguished family", "distinguished", "splendid", "kin" and "the nation"). This term replaces everything positive about all the other -isms I have ever used, and in it lies Paganism, traditional nationalism, racialism and environmentalism. It is not only a more accurate but also a more inclusive term that can be used by all Europeans (and others too for that sake). Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it is not a term tainted by history.

If we have a positive relationship to our homeland, to our blood, to our race, to our religion and to our culture we will not destroy any of this with modern "civilization" (id est capitalism, materialism, Judeo-Christianity, pollution, urbanization, race mixing, Americanization, socialism, globalization, et cetera).

HIs website.

The little winky emoticon usually indicates the post is intended to be taken in jest.

Well Fifth, I'm glad that you find nazism, fascism and supremacist groups amusing. As I stated in an earlier post, my grandparents were sent to camps by the Nazis in WW2, so I don't find it funny in the slightest and I usually try to find the humour in most subjects.

^ No, you've gone off topic and thread****ed it.
If I had to pick a favourite it would be AC/DC with Chisel and The Angels not far behind.

Saw The Angels with Dave Gleeson last week. Brilliant. Gleeson is a superb front man and the show was as good as any Angels gig I've seen, spanning back to 1982.

Most of the ones already mentioned -
INXS
Cold Chisel
Daddy Cool
Mondo Rock
Crowded House
Midnight Oil
Sherbet

but I would add Little River Band to the list.

Surprised The Bee Gees haven't been mentioned too. Not necessarily one of my favourites but should be mentioned due to their success as a group, and songwriters for other well known artists.

and although he's a 'bit of a dag' and has had many 'final concerts' I think John Farnham should be mentioned (is he a band?) and his song The Voice, I think, is the greatest song made by any Aussie, ever.

I remember happily listening to Whispering Jack as a tot and rather enjoying it. I think most people are too embarrassed to admit to liking Farnham now.

Some Farnham for good measure (taken from the movie Hot Rod):

"It started out super positive"

Not really a huge fav but a fav nonetheless, but Chrissy Amphlette lead singer of The Divynls has died in New York at age 53.

No details yet but saw it on ABC24

Rest in peace, Chrissie Amphlett.

Divinyls have always been one of my favourite bands. Very sad. She had such a unique voice. Also, despite my being a straight female, I found her sexy as hell.;)

When I was a teenager I bought the casette of their album that had the song 'I Touch Myself' on it - I also bought my first pair of headphones to listen to it with so my conservative parents wouldn't take issue with it .:D

Rest in peace Chrissy! Hubby's was a big fan and is a bit sadder than me and playing tribute songs. I spent the day yesterday crying as I so dearly miss my best friend who passed away 6 months ago and it would have been her birthday yesterday. You only live once, make the most of it. I so appreciate Australia's fantastic music industry. It's certainly been a really enjoyable/memorable part of my life.

Leonardo's bride was a very successful Australian band. Its most popular song - Even when you are sleeping - was a smash hit in its time. Yet the lead singer when she appeared on The Voice recently failed to be acknowledged by any of the judges - it means that genuine talent went unrecognised.
