2nd Cybertheft in 1 months! ARGHH

Hi,

Just had to gripe here.....2nd cybertheft within a month. First it was my amazon account - hacked, had to cancel VISA & AMEX cards - they purchased some gift cards which was swifly voided by Amazon and cancelled, got my full refund.

Second hack was this afternoon, logged into my paypal account to find a $0.00balance - $300 cleared out!! They even tried to add funds from my bank account ($2,500) which luckily failed (using my secondary account which has a big fat balance of $100 in it)...All purchases were directed to Russia and purchased off ebay and some other Chinese websites...

Definitely annoying!

Did you by any chance use the same password at amazon and paypal?

Definintely run anti-virus, phishing and malware on your computer to make sure it wasn't compromised from your end.

A quick google came up with an informative article from someone else who has the same thing happen. Worth a read:

Nope. Definitely different passwords!

Sneaky fellas, there was actually a very small unsuspecting transfer of $1.00 which I didn't pick up in paypal a couple of weeks ago!

Hoping I will get my refund but its pretty obvious I don't purchase like this fella did and it has Russia as an address...

What I'm really concerned about is if its phising - my commbank passwords!

How strong are your passwords?

You need to get a password application and protect everything.

One that produces extremely strong passwords for you to use but you only have to remember one to get into the app.

Obviously that one p/word needs to be very strong too but thats easy as it's only the one.

I use 1Password and it is absolutely a no brainer once you get used to using it.

That way you can change passwords frequently on all your logins and never have to remember them.

I just changed bank accounts used in Paypal, and password, instigated by your post.

Scariest thing is you don't know which accounts are compromised, especially bank accounts!!

The thing which I don't quite get when my amazon account got hacked - they changed the email address to theirs in which they changed the password. I quickly called Amazon to freeze account which they did! However, when I tried to change the password again it was then reset to the hackers and email changed again....

Paypal - no idea how it was hacked, security questions bypassed.

This only leads me to suspect my computer has been phised.

Don't log into anything else until you have checked it out. Also, can you call comm bank and let them know what has happened and ask them what your options are? You definitely don't want your bank accounts compromised.
