I'm sure if one or more of the 20 people who die each year in Qld from asbestos related disease was you, or a family member you would have a different view....
No NM ....in fact the direct opposite. Here's my point. This whole asbestos issue risk has been so overstated that it's become "over emotionalised" and everybody has thrown common sense out the window.
You may like to read The Age link in my post #25 to see how "out of control" the situation is. Having found asbestos in a school, a decision is made to remove MANY truckloads of soil. The soil is replaced. THEN these wizards find out the REPLACEMENT soil is loaded with MORE and WORSE asbestos than the original soil. Now they intend to replace the soil AGAIN.
Now, the problem with asbestos is "dust" ...how much dust do you reckon this exercise has created AROUND THAT SCHOOL and in other areas. Not only that, we now have more asbestos at more locations that we had before. Where did they dump the first dirt? Where will they dump the new (worse) dirt? Will the same trucks be used....laden with micro-scopic asbestos dust...travelling through previously "clean" areas ??? Your area ?? etc etc
What's missing is some common sense.. like.. Was the asbestos causing any REAL problems where it was ? The article does not mention any . Asbestos is a problem, but the BEST thing you can do with it is identify it and don't disturb it. Seal it (paint) if possible. Our "persons in charge" seem to be intent on doing just the opposite.
Why do they do this ? Because the problem has been SO over stated and over emotionalised and hence everybody is "running scared" of the lawyers and common sense has "gone fishing". ...and also, another sector of the community has worked out they can play on this fear AND charge exorbitant sums of money for "asbestos removal services". etc etc.
Now I'm going to do something else. This case is closed for me.
