Well, no prices had never dropped significantly in the US ever, same goes with Australia generally speaking.
I have been through many doubling of house prices and doubled my money five times at least.
The price fluctuations in the US right now are not boring, many have lost all that they have worked/invested for over a lifetime.
Nothing really to worry about though as rent became cheaper and houses are now so inexpensive, most important thing is to retain/maintain your job and credit rating.
