Driveway over sewer inspection shaft?

Hi everybody, just have a quick question about building a driveway over sewer inspection shafts.

The shaft on our property is a cast iron one which flares at the top slightly, covered by a cast iron plate; it sits around 25-cm above the driveway level.

Is it possible (with approval of relevant water authority) to cut away at this shaft to bring it in line with the driveway level? The goal here is to have a driveway right up against the rear property boundary when subdividing. The property is currently free of any encumbrances.

Common sense says yes, but maybe you more seasoned investors can confirm? :)

Easily done, what you have is a Ground Vent on a Boundary Trap.

The BT shaft is cut, a new GV is laid to the side of the driveway and a new top on the BT below ground level with a Heavy Cover in the driveway..

Thanks for the replies, I've contacted the authority and they seem to think it should be okay; I guess we'll find out for sure when we get to the approvals stage.

This work is done through you by a plumber not by the relevant Water Authority.

Just get a plumber in to give you a quote.
