family rifts, crazy behaviour from adult children

in fact i have a hot headed relative who seems to love me being tortured and is egging it on and inflaming the craziness instead of being a wise calming influence.
You know this relative is a problem so avoid her/him.

Don't get involved in problems ask yourself is this my problem OR not, if it is not your problem don't buy into it.

Strategies...

Day time - Just take off, grab their arm to interrupt and, wave goodbye and say you have to go.

Afternoons - Go for a walk etc.

Evenings - Go to your room, lock the door and read a book, use ear plugs if necessary.

If it is someone who lives with you - as long as they are old enough tell them that you need 2 nights a week OR every second weekend 'family free' to have some peace and quiet.

If it is someone who comes to the door or you meet them unexpectedly downtown etc. interrupt by holding up hand in stop sign & says would love to hear more but you are on a tight schedule and you have to go.

Identify your problems and work out how to handle them...

Don't put up with others bad behaviours, identify the behaviour and use an appropriate method to manage and minimise their impact on your life.

Good Luck
