First car...

1993 Ford Laser Stationwagon (none of this hatchback business).

Ran on the smell of petrol, back seats folded flat. Bought it at 140 000km, took it to 270 000km over 2 years, surfing up and down the WA coast, along with driving to building sites all over for my apprenticeship.

Could open the drivers door with anything that would fit in the lock. Could just fit me in the back to sleep for surf trips and after big house parties.

The most memorable days of my life to date involved that car.

a 1965 VW bug, good car except it used to go up on 2 wheels around corners when in a hurry :)
My parents had one...white, two door.

I went for my licence in it.

Door seals were so good; you couldn't close the doors properly unless the windows were cracked open a tad.

A 70's something Yellow Holden Gemini Coupe bought at an auction for $1,600 at 18 years old when starting 1st job back in 1994.
It was a manual and I'd never driven a manual before, but it was a good learning experience driving it home solo, only stalled it a couple of times and one was on an uphill start....

Diahatsu 4WD that I paid $50.00 for when I was 15. It had more fiberglass than metal in the body, but it got me across the road and over the sandhills to the beach. Had great fun with my mates towing a surfboard behind it and skurfing

Next vehicle when i got my licence was a Ford Falcon XD ute, well it was mine and the Banks. Parents went guarantor as I was working and I paid it off.

Mine was a 1973 Mk1 escort in the late 80s. It was a present from my dad - it got towed into the backyard, not working, when I was about 15.

It was multi coloured (white, with lots of coloured patches), had parts missing and was a real bomb. My friends and I spent several years 'doing it up'...it was still a bomb, but at least it was 1 colour (although a very bad home paint job).

I sold it a few years later for $1000.

Actually mis-read thread, anyhow my 1st car was a VN commy,at age 37 and i got my licence too and they wanted me to vote at 40.This applicable?

1967 VC Valiant.Referred to in the day as a old mans car.........dont things change.Bought it in 1980 for $600,sold it 3 years later for $400.

1974 Honda Civic 5 door hatch.

Perfect first car as it used little petrol though had an oil addiction that I kept feeding.

I think the worst thing that went wrong with it was a broken clutch cable one night when I was out working delivering pizzas. I managed to slam it into gears to get back.

It ran for years.
