GILLARD- Is she mad, stupid, guilty..or all three?

Stefan:

hmmmm....no poverty or near poverty, no extreme hardship, no orphans.
Suppose 'hardship' is subjective.

You have just given me an idea, thread, later, Coffee Lounge...IWBB. (I will be back).

Gotta go chase those pesky bats.

Aaron, i think you're confused of the definition of 'bogan'

This is a bogan! If you look closely, you can see the pre-filled voting card hanging out of his pocket. The local Labour member handed him the beer on the way in to the polling booth, on the proviso that he voted for them ;)

bogans get old.....

MJF fronted court this morning on theft charges only, yet the paper has reported theft and assault??

Error of the courts? So why has that not been pulled?

hey, I just realized Gillard is probably the first Labor PM in 70 odd years who actually worked in any significant capacity in the private sector, even if it was as one of a flock of lawyers.

the "common man" (& wo-man...) to choose the political orphanage rather than be party to getting yet another shyster elected?

Wouldn't say I was "common" ... but yes, being a political orphan is a rather uncomfortable place to be.

In the past I was an independant supporter as I believe "if" (big if considering I'm in a rusted on Labor seat) they got into power then they would have to best interests of the electorate at heart ... now I'm not so sure.

But strange things are happening - for the first time in over 100 years we got a Liberal in at State Parliment ... the first time ever that it wasn't Labor.

Curtin - comfortable working class, work experience = writer for radical socialist and Marxist newspapers, unions.
Forde - comfortable working class, work experience = teacher
Chifley - comfortable working class, work experience train driver and union rep.
Whitlam - privileged upbringing, work experience = lawyer.
Hawke - privileged upbringing, work experience = Unions
Keating - comfortable working class, work experience = Unions
Rudd - working class but never having to endure going without. Rudd's upbringing has been heavily dramatized as difficult, some of which has been proven to be outright fabrication. After his father died he was a boarder at Marist Brothers Ashgrove. Rudd makes out the school was harsh and unforgiving. This is absolute rubbish. I suggest people read Hugh Lunn's "Over the Top with Jim" to get a balanced view of life at the school before Rudd's days. I had several friends at his school when he was there, and my school competed against it in sport regularly. Academically, the school was one of the top 3 Catholic Brisbane schools and graduates were highly regarded by large employers.
Work Experience = Public Servant, Dept of Foreign Affairs, Labor Party.
Gillard - comfortable working class, work experience = Aust Union of Students, Socialist Forum, lawyer, Labor Party

Just exactly are you trying to prove here Stefan? ;)

Because the News Limited papers are bias.;)

Quite frankly in some part, I actually do admire Gillard for her resilience and the fact that as a woman, she has come through the mechanism that is the Labor Party to reach the top. No matter how she was put there, she must be and is proven to be one tough lady.

But, no...I'm not going soft...such a shame that our first female PM has been such a dud.

Josey, if we needed any more proof that history is highly subjective and vulnerable to spin, and often meddled with by ideologues (i.e. Russian history on industrial era inventions, China's rewriting of Tibetan history, Kevin Rudd's self history vs the majority of those who were there), then look no further than Michelle Grattan's book.

Although MG comes out as neutral in this survey of Aussie journos, the fact that Crikey edited it and leftie journos think they are centrists [look no further than ABC culture], the chart's neutral rated journos need to be shifted 2 points to the left.

Apparently she hit the security guard trying to get her back into the shop with the door of her car.

Hence assault.

I know that .

She was charged with assault but according to court documents she wasn't fronting up for assault charges today, only theft.

Charges often get dropped, even if the incident did happen (which I'm NOT disputing happened btw).

I'm quering the accuracy of the reporting based on conflicting information.

There is a vocal, select amount of people, the coalition, media, people on this board for example, baying for Julia Gillard's blood.

Wouldn't call the majority of Australia voters as "select".

Jo, OO made a call that most prime ministers came from battling and deprived backgrounds. Stephan was just showing that they didn't.

hi Lizzie...

I know, sorry I was being facetious hence the wink.;)

Well, there goes another knee jerk policy..so what's next?

The NBN!

This is interesting.

Wonder who it was doing the 'heavying'.

Everything I've read and heard says she has been charged with shoplifting. and assault.

In the media yes.

I suppose the courts may have made an error when recording the charges being heard today.

That, or one of the charges was dropped, and the media isn't aware of it.

"And the unthinking right wing bogan electorate laps this stuff up"

Yes, I want to ask the same sort of thing. How can you have bogan and right-wing in the same sentence? From my experience I would have thought bogans are left-wing.

You're puylling my leg right ?:p

In my experience most bogans are bloody right wing mate.. bloody oath.. stuff the lot of em.. .send em back to where they bloody come from... if you dont luv it leave....F OFF WE'RE FULL...... AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE... we dont need foreign ***** here.... etc etc

I'm dead serious.......

From the court evidence reported in the press, the assault charges haven't been dropped. It's interesting tough, that it wasn't recorded in the court docs.

I agree, they don't appear to have dropped it. It may have been a clerk error - will check again when the trial resumes (at this stage she's not on the list for tomorrow).
