Low pressure from hot water cylinder

Hi

My mum says there was a power cut and ever since the hot water cylinder has been delivering hot water - but at low pressure.

Im not sure the two events are related. I had a look in the dark which was not very illuminating... Are there any obvious things I should check out first?

The old systems have a relief valve at the top, open the lever and spill out some air if their is any?? other than this dont know sorry.

1) The water presure exiting the HWS would be the same as the presure entering the HWS
2) How is the cold water presure? if this is greater that the hot water presure then there is a problem with the piping/valve entering the HWS

Go to the HWS and tap the valve with a shifter or hammer - tap not hit, see if this improves.

Had the same problem about 6 months ago - presure getting less and less each day until nothing - what happened was the tap washer had lowered and rested on the seat.

Also try turning the valve off the back on - this will also release the washer.

I called the HWS specialist and explained what had happened he asked what type of valve i has (with small round knob - as opposed to the old style T-Bar type) told me to tap it to see if that will release or to turn the valve off them back on.

I know it sounds hard to believe- but he told me it is quite common.

Did this fix the problem?

Hi

Sometimes the valve on the top or side of the system jams when the power is cut off and the system cools down, the s-s steel spring inside does not rest itself, maybe replace the valve, they cost about $60- $90 depending on the model,if after that you still have low pressure then the enternal core will be cracked,if that is the case then the system will have to be replaced, only my opinion but most times a quick wack with a small hammer will reset the internal spring like Collector and Craigb have already said..imho..willair..

Great news Ill try that - thanks guys. System is only about five years old so hopefully only minor - it really should last longer than that.
