Napoleon Hill - What is the 'secret'

Also,
Robbins does the auditory command to his subconsciuos too.

Its all part of delivering the message to your mind, either by Visual, Auditory or Kinesthetic. Its called the Submodalities (how you represent things to your mind) in NLP, as Robbins teaches.

Geoffw,

you may be surprised how many people still think saying 'god is in you and everyone' is blasphemy and heresy.
Then change the way you think of it.

"You have something within yourself which can achieve great things".

"Your subconscious is powerful".

But if you don't believe there's anything inside of you, internal or external, then it will take a lot longer to achieve great things.

Acey,
I couldn't agree more. And I too am being serious. You need to believe in what you can achieve.

Now that's blasphemous :D !

(But it would be a good way of making your body, and its upkeep, tax deductible)

After all it is an income-producing asset. Given that food, travel and housing are costs of upkeep, why these are not tax deductible baffles me!

Education could be treated as a capital improvement. Given that knowledge goes out of date so quickly, a depreciation factor is obviously warranted. In something like the IT industry, an appropriate rate is 50% per year, whereas for something like blacksmithing, maybe 5% only. Education courses where there are more students than places to fill them (eg law degrees) could attract a negative depreciation allowance, though we actually already have this in the form of HECS.

What about when you die? There is some form of transfer of assets so stamp duty would be payable. Note that the rate would vary according to your religious beliefs as to where you go after death. Hence you have to be very careful about forming your own religion as a tax dodge with you as a reincarnated guru as the tax dept will assume you're capable of doing it again and 100% of you will be taxable.

If you haven't already, have a look at this;

http://www.scienceofgettingrich.net/

Follows the Hill/Robbins et al life force theory. Good stuff if you can get past the merchandise push, but hey, we've all got to make a buck. There's a good free book that I found useful way back in the same way as Hill was.

BTW - haven't posted for a while. Just about to get into my 2nd IP, getting excited again.

great stuff..

hi guys,

good to see i'm not the only barmy freak into these writings :)

loved think & grow rich ... a bit 'old skool' however worth the read... bit like ready the old testament (i hastily assume)
long enough to get temporarily conviced by the thinking without concious engagement ... maybe too long for some ;)

'science of getting rich' is in my mind the condensed version.... goes on about 'creativity vs competition' ... very much a entrepreneurs inspiration.

cheers,

Hi All
I've been a fan of Think & Grow Rich for about 40 years. My Dad used it. It has worked for me and others in my family. The stated principles and the natural laws behind them are timeless. I use the system in different ways, slightly changed for my own comfort, but basically the same. However, I am cautious in choosing which projects I apply the system to because once the forces are put into motion, there is no rest from the rollercoaster, it is straight on to success and it can be very intense. For me, the cosmos delivers. Hope it does the same for all of you too. :)

success = mission + action + persistence

G'day all,

Have just re-read the book after this post got me interested again - thanks!

I read the book looking for the central themes that seemed to emerge and for me

Success = mission + action + persistence

where mission = a passionate goal + a detailed plan

IMHO, this is the essence of the book.

Cheers

Wow does this subject open up a can of worms for me, I could write a book :D .
You need to read the book another nine or ten times MarkR!, as Hill says you must continue reading it and taking it in until you do get the secret, and yes there most definately is one.
I can`t tell you how many times I read it probably ten or more, I still have the original book falling to pieces and filled with scribbled notes and outlines but as Geoff said, the book was not really for me either, I felt the book centred on mind control and since Hill admitted there is very little if anything known about the mind that ended it for me but it never really felt natural to me or right but it was a great book got me thinking.
The secret works best when you just get it as Hill said but since you ask, it is simply the knowledge that you control your own destiny through the use of persistance, you must continue to think. I can remember being around 14 when my dad gave me the book and when I finally "got" it and like Hill said it did feel like a great new world opened up and I can remember being stunned and truly felt like I was standing on a mountain looking at a world where I could have anything, for the record it was exactly the same feeling I have gotten when "in love", the one time I have been in my 39 yrs, it was just incredible excitement for the future.
Having said that at this point I can`t be sure whether it helped or hindered me but to me life loses that "magic" when it is written down as steps to follow, and I`m not sure most people have the time or true "want" to follow all the instructions.

Hi everybody

I know this thread is a little old, but I just saw it and felt compelled to post my 2 cents worth.

I have read Think and Grow Rich.

IMHO it is one of the best books ever written, I am convinced that a lot of the information in the book is correct and for me it seems to sum up how life works. We are here to make the best of ourselves and our situation. I have been succesful in life so far and certainly attribute this the theories out lined in the book which I have practiced.

My kids will be given a copy to read and study when the time is right. It should be compulsory reading at school. Instead they get you to read rubbish like Day of the Triffids etc.

Anyhow, would love to read more from the forum on this subject.

Hi Fivemillion
I spend a lot of time travelling between Canberra and Sydney by car and often listen to the man himself through a series of CD,s that I got given indirectly from Geoff W(I think he has the info on where to get copies).
I find the CD's a powerfull way to take on board NH's principals of personal development. The book ,for me, is hard to read simply because of the depth of ideas and challenges it exposes in nearly every paragraph.
Anyone who asks me the question "who has influenced your thinking the most in relation to wealth creation?" I'll tell them Nepoleon Hill. And I agree with your post that the principals of NH's life's work would help if it where taught as part of this country's education system.

Simon

Re-read the book annually

Like many things, greater insights come with greater experience and practice. I re-read T&GR every year.

Hill's 13 steps to Growing Rich are (paraphrased):
1. Build desire
2. Build faith
3. Use autosuggestion to embed the drive
4. Accumulate the nescessary specialised knowledge
5. Develop & use imagination
6. Organise & plan
7. Decide
8. Persist
9. Develop & use a "knowledge team" (eg this forum)
10. Redirect your sex drive (I suggest you read the chapter on this and make your own mind up!)
11. Use the subconscious mind
12. Use telepathy & clairvoyance (tuning into "the Force" referred to earlier)
13. Develop and use an imaginary "cabinet"

then identify & mitigate your fears and take action

Of course, the answer will be different for each of us but I hope this might help people to find his or her own definition!

Cheers

Hey Simon

I have the tapes too!!

They are scratchy because the recordings are so old but I agree that listening to the man is very good.

The principals in the book should be applied in all facets of daily life, family proffesional / career / investing, dealing with friends etc.

I have known about this stuff for twenty years and it has definately been a big influence on my achievements and out look on life.
