I am too frank and they are too defensive.
This nails one of the problems of living in the USA, which I did for over 2 decades, and we still have strong financial and family ties there. It is unfortunately too easy to insult Americans because of their passionate beliefs, and I spent years walking on eggshells trying to keep my mouth shut.
It took a long time to realise how deeply paradoxical the country is. I always think of America as the Extreme country. From religion to capitalism, everything is more intense than most other countries.
As for lifestyle, I never know what people mean by claiming an Australian lifestyle - lifestyle is what you make for yourself.
Had a friend from work ask his relatives in Nevada. They say brand new appartments on the main casino strip of Las Vegas are down to 35K and people still won't buy them because there's no one to rent them to. For those who like a bit of long term speculation maybe...
Get 5 mates to put in 10k, buy a unit on the strip and use it for holidays once a year!
How much are council rates and body corp?
You would need to check the body corp charges. I've heard that the banks don't pay BC fees on condos that have been handed back. Remaining owners have to make up the slack.
On average most people seem to basically just work , come home , pay bills , get a little bit of time with the family , work again . take a trip now and then , pretty well it .
Seems nothing they couldn't do anywhere else really .
There are large parts of my little regional town that you should keep personal safety in mind, especially (but not only) at night.sure its the same, but, its all the minor things - your work, come home, pay bills, holidays, etc, might be interleaved with 'remember not to walk that way home, saw someone get rolled last week', and 'consider getting a gun licence for wife's protection' and 'no we cant go out and get dinner its dark now', 'look to move to a new suburb as this one wasnt as good as our research told us'
sure, an exageration, but im sure there a plenty of daily 'hassles' you would have over there that you might not here.

For the record (and I hope you agree having lived there) Australia is a better place to live.

35K? Come on!
Im in vegas in August...if that's true ill buy for the long term.
Yep it's true alright, I saw stuff on it myself and I see a few other threads about it around here too. Allot of them were 4 and 500k only a yr or two ago, some a lot more.
I reckon you couldn't go wrong myself who cares if you mightn't rent it out for awhile . it's only 35k .
Vegas is froth and bubble, a proxy for "Wealthy America". Without the exuberant wealthy it has no reason to exist, just as Detroit now has no reason to exist. In fact they don't even have the means to exist. No water, no industry, no power. Everything is imported at high cost.
It is oft said here property can't fall to zero but it has in Detroit (literally) and is nearly there in Vegas. At least Florida will always have some appeal and some industry.
