I see the number of Perth properties for sale is now around 15,190 (REIWA) down from the heights of 18,2000 (REIWA).

WA Treasurer Christian Porter revealed yesterday that the Government was working on a "range of tax relief options", which would be announced in next year's State Budget the conservatives' last before the 2013 state election.

Mr Porter refused to give details of the tax cuts, but sources told The Sunday Times that measures to inject life into a depressed housing market were being looked at by the Barnett Government, with cuts to stamp duty on home sales on the agenda.

Sources also told The Sunday Times that the State Government was keen to make sure that real estate prices did not return to the unaffordable levels of 2006-07 when the next economic boom arrived in WA.

Sources said the Government was looking at ways to encourage land developers to build and sell more homes in housing estates.

One idea being considered was to scrap stamp duty on new homes, sources said. Another was to scrap stamp duty on new apartments bought off the plan.
