Where to find a property's building/floor plan

I am wondering where can I find a property's building plan? I am not sure if building plan is the right term for it. Basically I am after something like a floor plan which at a minimum tells me how all rooms are laid and preferably gives me room dimensions.

I bought some plans from lands.vic.gov site but they give information about the land/plot that the house is build on but not about the building structure.

Please guide and help.

Try your local council. They'll charge you for them though.

Thanks. Do you know if councils provide this information straightaway (over the counter) or do you have to wait days/weeks? The council is City of Whittlesea, Vic.

Not sure about that particular council, sorry, but they usually send copies out to you via snail mail. The time depends on their efficiency. It took my local shire council 4 weeks to send out the floor plan, etc, on the 2 year old house I bought (and this was impressive given how long it usually takes them to approve simple DAs ). If the property is quite old it may take longer - if they still have them at all.
