How's the trip going?

You don't miss much redwing!

We have been having a great time. Currently at mission beach dodging falling coconuts. The council runs a caravan park here on the beach that costs the family $20 per night but they don't take any bookings and you need to be here before 11am to get a spot. We might stay awhile - snorkelled the reef yesterday which was nice. Just thought I would check up on the forum while sitting on the beach!

From Perth we have been through Broome, Fitzroy Crossing, Gibb River Road gorges, Mitchell Falls, El Questro, Bungles, Kununnura (the 50km boat trip down the ord from lake argyle is highly recommended), Katherine, Darwin, Kakadu (jim jim, gunlom, barramundi gorge etc), umbrawarra, Edith falls, mataranka, lawn hill, karumba, cairns, cape tribulation, cooktown then here. That has been three months, with some catching up with friends and a month on the gibb by itself.

The more remote we went the better the experience, to the point where we are considering another trip with more of a tent touring setup so we can access more out of the way places more easily. Perhaps when the kids are a bit older.

The rest of this trip will just centre on catching up with friends. We had plans of seeing Canberra museums etc but the kids are too young. After an hour of museums they are bored but give them a Kimberley waterfall and they are entertained for a day or two! We might head home early to leave some time for that type of trip next year or the year after as getting back into suburbia here on the east coast isn't really our thing. And it takes a long time and a fair bit of hassle to drag our camper around to the more remote places (corrugated roads and breaking things like shock absorbers). It's all good fun but a lighter setup would be better when our youngest has grown up a bit.

But the experience has been great for the kids (and their parents) and has brought the family together in a way that can only be achieved with a two hour trek for everyone (youngest on my back!) that has a fantastic waterfall and plunge pool at the end to swim in.
