Australias next Prime Minister

The workings of the Senate however - now there's a whole different kettle of fish. Only got 3 days to go until the idiot Greens hold the balance of power there, so all meaningful legislation shall now need to go thru the loony loop before becoming Law. Expect to see hopelessly compromised policy get thru, and everything else rejected. It's gonna get ugly.

What don't you like about the greens?

What don't you like about the greens?

I can imagine that's a post that will keep Dazz busy for a very long time! :D

I dont like the Greens (and I tend towards left wing policies).
If you look at the policies they have pushed since the last election, few seem to be related to the environment. They are very socialist - anti business, anti wealth, anti religion......... the list goes on. I dont think they have any clue about the economy and given the level of power they will have in the govt, that's a scary thing.
the thing that is most scary to me is that its all wrapped up in love and peace and caring for the environment. At least with someone like Pauline Hanson, you knew where you stood. But with the Greens, there seems to be alot of hidden agendas.

PennyK:
I'd heard Penny Wong the day before.. I dont remember what it was about. But she just kept saying the same thing over and over again. Obviously the line that she had been told from the opinion polls. I hope she is never PM... disaster. Stephen Smith had alot more integrity, at least in that one interview!

...or journalist/questioner was framing same question 14 different ways to try and elicit the response they wanted. I've seen that happen with every politician, both sides of fence.

Also another fan of Stephen Smith here, met him in Canberra, man of few words but those words are well articulated and worth listening to... also like Greg Combet and 'Slammin' Craig Emerson makes me smile.

Agree with Penny.

Because they are called the "Greens", those to lazy to find out think that they are pro-enviroment when, in fact, they are rather anti-everything progressive and pro-equal money for all (whether you work for it or not).

Perhaps they should be called the "Reds" because they are the closest we have to communism.

What don't you like about the greens?

This won't take but a minute.

Simple - their policies - read their website. I don't agree with their philosophy on most, if not all of the subject matters raised, that underpin their policies.

They have zero credibility due to their lack of experience when it comes to managing an economy, and therefore should not be in charge or deciding anything that has a $ sign in front of it.

Fortunately, as I said previously, I believe the Liberal party has found the elixir for excluding the Greens, as skilfully employed during the Victorian state election via preference deals with Labor, so even though the Greens currently garner approximately 10-12% of the primary vote, their ability moving forward to translate those voting numbers into actual seats in Parliament should be severely curtailed....even down to nil, as we saw in Victoria recently.

Given that, I don't think the Greens are worth talking about much, as their representation in Parliament should slide back to nil. Obviously, in the backroom deals that the public & journalists never hear of, this is where the Greens are working the hardest with Labor to try and get preferenced higher on the party tickets. I don't think Labor wish to play that game however, as the Greens seem to be "eating" Labor held seats rather than taking any off the conservatives.

Anyway....

I am bemused by the way the Greens think a dependent 16 yo schoolie's understanding of life and making a living is equal to an independent adult's. Why else would the Greens want to give 16yo's the vote?

I am bemused by the way the Greens develop policy to target female voters. Considering females make up 2/3 of Australia's public sector employees, the Greens know females benefit from a higher taxing govt which wants to expand government.

Agree with Penny.

Watermelons! Thin vaneer of green with a large red centre.

GREENS.....

Now, I am not a political person.

All politicians leave me cold. All there for the gravy train. Liars in suits, and most have never done a fair-dinkum days work in their lives.

But hey; they don't start off that way...they all start off bright eyed, full of ideas and hope.

But then the system wears them down, and they eventually end up thinking of the super fund and the junkets, and job longevity.

The GREENS?

I have no idea - my uneducated impression is a bunch of tree-hugging, welfare scum loving lefty softies who want to sit around and play their thumb symbols and think of saving the whales and the dolphins and trying to destroy anything that resembles capitalism.

Close?

Oh yeah; JOE HOCKEY for PM, in my book.

Tony Abbott?!?! Nevvaahhh! Australians would never allow it *crosses fingers and touches wood firmly *
He's all right as a nay-saying opposition leader against a pretty weak and ineffective government. But Mr ''don't take it as gospel truth unless I've written it down'' won't wash when it comes to the ballot box when it counts. Think Turnbull might make a run ... he'd give them a red hot go if he did.

hi all
I think we will see another come thru not abbott
not sure about turnbull
but what have they got to beat
we have a pm that did not lie on 1 we will not have a carbon tax under the government I lead
well she is not telling a lie she is not governing so its not a lie
at the moment
what have we
we have a nbn run by two people that have run a business that the us government paid bribe which both have said they new nothing about but they run this thing and no one voted them into the job
it said to cost 40bil and could be 80bil and we don't know if anyone will take it up or if we want it
a gov that only 38% at max and no one want them there and ruling
chinese indians french and brits BUYING EVERY GRASS THEY CAN and a minister thats thinks that fine
we have cut off the export market so the farmers have to sell up
and to who read above
we have miners digging out coal and minerals and not even paying royalaties so we get nothing
we have a ex priminister kevin 07 out giving away millions to people that hate us in some case and what to kill usin others but lets give them money that may work
we have the greens that what to close off every mine if they can and saddle us with a carbon tax which helps no one and increase costs of everything for no good
and you ask who will be the next pm
well the way I see it
it will be mr lee, chen or suk depending who owns the most land
what is the biggest problem for me
is losing 50bil on a nbn seems nothing to losing million of k of land
the problem we have it three fold
1 we have no captain at the helm we have 5 hands on the wheel and no one knows where to go
2 we have pirates on the ship and they are taking everything not bolted down
3 we have no border control or anyone looking at helping.
the place is in total dissary with no one wanting to solve our problems
yes we get to vote in 2 years but will that be enough time
they are selling 350mil per month in 2 years 75% will be sold
and then come in mr lee chen or suk
if some came to you and said vote for me or you lose your job and the person telling you this is the only boss for 200k whats your answer
could this happen
it already is
we have coal companies owned from overseas walking in and telling people to walk off the land
they don't need to rule if the do will they walk away
I think a party will come to the front
and its there
the problem is will it have enough time
not sure

Well said Grossreal (once I worked thru it)!

Especially the bit about the NBN ... what the biggest waste of $40 (more like $80) billion this country will have ever seen!

The government is brokering to pay Telstra $11billion for the existing infrastructure and associated customers - at the same time Telstra is about to lauch 4G and expects to get at least 40% of those customers back almost immediately.

The NBN technology is already out of date and they haven't even started building. Much better to leave the innovation to private enterpise in my opinion as they will outperform the dinosaur government every time.

Everyone is in agreement the present government have lost the plot
So where is the democracy when we dont want the NBN the Carbon Tax Foreigners buying up all our farms and residential property etc
And now we have that creep brown who is in a minority starting to pull the strings
We cant wait for 2 years for an election or this country will be stuffed

Yeah I know hey .. probably should do something about it..

but ah I can't be ****ed.....

;)

Interesting, that was the way Julia ascended into politics.

Partner at Slater & Gordon by 29 (1990). Entered Federal Parliament in 1998 after serving two (2) years as Brumby's Chief of Staff. Then went into the safe Labor seat of Lalor

As an former member of the profession from a "prestiguous" law firm, I wouldn't regard S&G as a "prestiguous" law firm.

Prestiguous law firms are Mallesons, Freehills, Allens, Slaughter & May, Linklaters etc... they help big bad foreign companies buy local companies/mines/farms here

Law firms like Slaters and Maurice Blackburn fight class actions and take the cases to "big bad companies" for things like banks ripping you off by overcharging you $0.50 every year over the last 20 years ... fits well with ALP mantra

Grossreal - as usual uninformed people should not be able to vote.

For a start, miners do pay royalties, contrary to what you think.

For your education/and right to vote under my regime if I ever held power, the mining tax will be in addition to government royalties which are already paid
