Socialism didn't get the British Empire or the USA out of poverty.
Nor did it get India out of poverty.
Enterprise gets countries out of poverty.

The Labor crowd are generally on the side of the worker. The family and the people with less. We do need it, but there has to be a limit. Labor doesn't have it.
Labor will always for policy and budget based on what the little man in the street wants/needs. Pensions for this, grants for that. Give 'em more.
But, this is not always good for the economy - think: things such as loading on holiday pay, employer contributed super, long service leave - to name a few.
All sounds great, yes? Well, think why almost all manufacture is not in Australia anymore.
The Libs are more in favour of encouraging enterprise and endeavour. This promotes growth in industry, commerce, retail, and increases employment.
The economy grows, and hopefully puts more people to work and less on welfare - more income earners means more taxes to improve the infrastructure, amenities and so on.
Welfare and other free handouts improves the economy... how?

2. Don't spend any grants for the study of mating habits of witchety grubs.
3. cull half of the pub service and their junkets, take away all their perks other than wages and industry super.
4. cut off their (pollies) super until death after they vacate office.
5. add a few more Gubbmint costs into the transaction of a property purchase/build/sell.
6. more revenue cameras. (amazingly, we don't seem to have very many red light cameras anymore?)
7. cut welfare payments to single, unmarried mothers with more than one child (one accident we can forgive, but two?), and those same mothers who are living with a partner who is fully employed.
There's a few for ya's.

What about all of the conservative columnists in the Murdoch press? I think Bolty, Albrechtson, Ackerman and Shanahan serve up more bile and ill-infromed opinion than anyone at the ABC.
They are paid by private corporations, not the taxpayer.

your probably better off not voting for anyone if you dont have an interest and dont care.
This is true.
I guess as time goes on and I get older, politics and what it means to me and my family will become more important. Not having a family of my own the last 30 years means I have not had much social responsibility. Now I have a partner, baby and mortgage, I may take more notice.

The UK BBC coined the phrase 'institutional racism', when describing the police.
In return they were dubbed 'institutionally socialist', which seemed very apt!
It stemmed from the fact that the question was aways 'why aren't you spending more on....' rather than ' why are you wasting tax payers money on.......'
