The Future Fund was set up to meet the obligations of superannuation of public servants, when the money runs out (in 2020 I believe). The name is misleading because people believe its for anything to do with 'the future'.

My tremendous apologies. I am appalled that such a thing should exist (I mistook the name as standing for similarly named future sighted programs in Qld).

Through the grapevine I had heard that the Federal Super fund wasn't doing too well, but shouldn't the public servants just take that hit, the same way every other employee would have to if their super went sour?

Ugggh. I'd insert a smiley but there isn't one that looks ill enough ...

Appalled at what? That a fund should exist to fund obligations, or that the obligations exist?

The fund makes sense if you ask me. Some of the obligations don't, but too late for that. Got to remember that this isn't just for pollies, but those who have worked in current & past gov organisations - defence, water etc.

I assume he means Howard will get the blame for this because he should have bought our troops home, or never sent them in the first place etc etc I'm sure it wouldn't have happened under Kevin.
