More about men and women

{Edit - thread split from this one: Australian marry a Thai lady - asset protection?}

I once have a friend who is from Hong Kong, she had tons of HK guys chasing after her in Australia. They were rich, with a degree, nice guys, sends her flowers. She rejected them all, just nitpicking saying "he's too boring, etc". Then she got herself an Aussie bf. No job, on the dole, tattoos, not good looking (looks like Eminem's face/hair), skinny (look like on drugs), no ambitions just hanging around. And she says she found the love of her life! And she got played after a few months. My theory is that these girls think they got an 'upgrade' if they get a western bf, because they think western is better than asian in many ways.

A particularly pertinent comment from a manosphere regular:

The thing I keep noticing here almost no one in the mainstream dating advice world is talking about attraction, or what women find attractive. There is what women SAY they find attractive, but nothing about what women ACTUALLY DO find attractive.

Frankly I think it's because they are all assuming attractiveness, and going from there.

I also think it's because women (and most blue pill men) cannot handle and will not accept what women really do find attractive. I think most women simply cannot handle being confronted with the fact that while they like these beta provider men as affable, personable, friendly men; they are not and never will be attracted to them. They like these men as dads and walking wallets. But they aren't attracted to them and will never love them.

....about your ego?

No. Like some other women who have posted here, I'm just amazed at some of the sweeping generalisations made about men and women, what they want, how they should treat each other in order to be attractive.

And to judge a man's manliness on how he dresses or whether or not he trims his eyebrows... please!

What about an older man who might have to trim his ear hairs. Does he suddenly become a metrosexual... or "gasp" gay? Or could it be that he doesn't like having hairy ears? Are some of you worried that trimming your eyebrows could lead to... trimming your nose hairs... possibly shaving your legs (without having to buy a bike first). It could be the start of a very slippery slope and very hard to explain it to your blokey mates :D.

So I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry...

Men fall for so much when there is the promise of s##! Wake up boys.

Men are programmed to inseminate and propagate their DNA so we can blame science.

The more in touch with reality you are, the more you'll be protected from the vices that you may attract when you're delusional and confused.
I'd recommend a meditation retreat. Try it and see how you go.

Why do you make ridiculous comments that have no relevance to what you've quoted?
What is wrong with you?

- chick porn (aka romance novels) make more money each year than male porn

Do you have a source for this? I tried a quick google but couldn't find anything. The porn industry is on par with Hollywood in terms of earnings, I struggle to believe that romance novels make even close to that kind of money even with the recent 50 Shades success.

Do you have a source for this?

My quick google found the following:

http://www.forbes.com/2001/05/25/0524porn.html

In 1998, Forrester did publish a report on the online adult content industry, which it pegged at $750 million to $1 billion in annual revenue.

Note: not sure if that is U.S. only or worldwide sales

http://www.rwa.org/p/cm/ld/fid=580

Estimated annual total sales value of romance in 2013: $1.08 billion (source: BookStats)

The above is for the U.S. only.

Yes, I am aware there is a gap there, but keep in mind that porn revenues have either flatlined or dropped, due to the enormous availability of free stuff on the innernets.

Here you go fella's!

http://nypost.com/2012/11/25/nobody-marries-their-best-sex-ever/

According to a recent study by iVillage, less than half of wedded women married the person who was the best sex of their lives (52 percent say that was an ex.) In fact, 66 percent would rather read a book, watch a movie or take a nap than sleep with a spouse.

Yikes! Good luck with that, dudes.

Note that the 'nobody' in the title of the article is actually 'women'. In the manosphere, there's a term for these women: 'Alpha Widows'.

You are comparing porn revenue with total sales for romance novels so by your own admission porn makes more. In the study you quote, it states that total porn sales is 10 billion. The Forbes article you linked to actually debunks the study claiming the figure is inflated, so I tried to find some more recent figures. This article is more current and quotes a wide range of figures:

http://www.alternet.org/sex-amp-relationships/success-killing-porn-industry

The figures vary, but every figure puts porn revenue higher than the above study and much, much higher than the revenue from romance novels.

I'm also not sure that porn revenues have flatlined or dropped since 1998, the figures would suggest otherwise. Though the Internet does provide a plethora of free porn options, it also has a gazillion means of seducing hapless souls into paying for porn. Even with free porn, a lot of revenue comes from advertising.

In the study you quote, it states that total porn sales is 10 billion.

You clearly didn't read the whole thing, because it states later in the article that the 10 billion dollar is false, because the study it supposedly comes from doesn't exist.

"The idea that pornography is a $10 billion business is often credited to a study by Forrester Research. This figure gets repeated over and over. The only problem is that there is no such study."

You obviously didn't read my post wherein I said:

Then why even raise it?

Note that I also pointed out that the figures for the porn industry *may or may not* be worldwide (to be fair though, it's unlikely), but that the $1 billion for romance novels was U.S. sales only.

I mentioned it because you posted it. When someone is kind enough to go to the effort of copying and pasting a link for me, I think it common courtesy to acknowledge it.

Even going by the link that you posted, the 1998 article puts the figure at somewhere about 2.9 billion plus magazines. They don't make it clear if this figure is total sales or revenue (I assume revenue as they are using the figure to debunk the 10 billion in revenue), but both figures are higher than the figure you referenced for total sales for erotica.

The link I provided had some more recent stats which puts both the total sales and revenue much higher than your 1998 figures. Even if there are no entirely reliable figures, every single figure places porn in an infinitely bigger and more profitable ballpark than erotica.

You've done this before, make up 'facts' and then become snarky when you're pulled up on it instead of saying 'you know what, I was wrong'.

I have not looked at any links but am hoping the figures being quoted suggesting romance novels outsell male porn is not trying to equate romance novels with porn. You do know romance novels are not porn (generally)... 50 Shades of Grey is not what a regular "Mills and Boon" reader will be buying.

I'm officially awarding this 'The Funniest Post In Thread'.
