Poker @ Crown - Perth

Not me....but I know someone who used to and lost big time.

They finally worked out the house always wins.

That's how they keep the doors open 24/7.

How the hell can they call card games "sport"?

I see it occasionally listed as a program on the sports channels on Foxtel. A joke, right?

Not my cup of tea.

Played roulette a coupla times at the Cas, but otherwise, leads me cold as a mother-in-law's stare, and becomes mind-numbingly boring after a short while.

Where's the first tee?

No limit hold’em poker is actually pretty fun to watch IMO, especially on TV when you can see the hole cards. Omaha is even more fun. I used to play online A LOT but couldn’t handle the tilt and the swings. Playing live poker is boring as **** though

Hey

anybody from SS play poker at crown perth?

Practically every FIFO person I know. Know a few who stay at the Cas on the off roster and gamble away their earnings. So much for 'I'm going to earn big and retire/buy a house/set myself up blah blah'

I play poker with some friends but very tame house rules.

The house always wins at all games except poker, the house is just the host in this instance.

Theres actually quite a few players down there that treat it as a full-time job, and I'm sure there are many more in the likes of sydney and melbourne.

Was hoping there might be a few from this community that play there.

Haha well i do FIFO but would like to consider myself not in that position, but i do know what you mean. i cannot see how you could work away from friends and family 10h plus days just to throw it away.

House takes 10% of the pot up to 15$ - its called the rake

all casinos are different some you will have to pay an hourly fee aswell

burswood is by far the fairest.

it doesn't force a game out for those that cant afford the hourly rate and they just take a commission for allowing you to play there.

i've played the tables there - funny, really. dudes that takes themselves uberserious with the ipod in and the sunnies and the hat and the hoodie and.....

it's just a game, have fun, play the hand to play it, not to win it.

Melbourne doesn't charge an hourly rate anymore, just a set amount at the start then commission on each hand.

Adelaide doesn't have an hourly rate or amount at the start... just commission like Burswood.

I play occasionally. I play to win, but only play with what im willing to loose :)

Iv'e played at Canberra and Brisbane. Great fun but as Aaron said there are some pretty serious peeps there and they aren't always that good!

I prefer gambling when the stakes are much higher and the odds are with me rather than against me. Which rules out casinos... hello property!

How many $15 pots on average do you reckon they can fit into an hour of play?

Hmm id say about 30 hands per hour with an average rake of 5$ per hand. so the casino are making around 150$ an hour to keep the table going, not bad.

Yip there are lots of people that think they are wining players but I'm sure must lose a fortune. I play to win when I'm there and i keep track of my results. most people calculate there winnings on the amount of big blinds they win per hour, so with a 5$ big blind if you were to win 30$ an hour thats a 6bb win rate. i do alright but only have a win rate of 3bb per hour - the equivalent of a 4% yield id say so not that impressive but better than losing :)
