Tiling - Uneven Surface

I am looking at tiling over a concrete floor which is uneven. What techniques do people know of for achieving a level surface? I can appreciate laying sheet flooring, but how do you ensure a level base?

I would appreciate your feedback.

It depends on how uneven it is.. if the variation is more than 4-5mm lay a thin layer of screed down.. cement and sand with a sealer laid down first..

If its just a few mm's variation.. you could use a water based levelling compound, they come in powder form and are then mixed into a paste and laid flat.

If there's any cracks clean out any debris etc first.. and seal them with a PVA adhesive and then the concrete mix.. dont be afraid to chisel more out to get a better gap for the concrete to adhere into..

There is a levelling compoung that'll do quite large variations. I forget precisely how much, it's called "thick & thin", check a big hardware store.
