Tv - Show Renovators

Kim IS a hardworker, but she always butts heads with the rest of her team.

It must be difficult on the show where everyone is out for themselves to show 'weakness' by asking for assistance or saying 'this isnt working'

Kim accepted the change in table for the charity challenge without a murmur, but really should she have said an hour earlier 'this isnt working guys, have we got any other ideas'?

I guess noone want to be known as the person that cant get the job done

I love the show but think that there is too much emphasis on the decorating. I was hoping that they would explain a bit more about the actual processes of renovating and building that the average joe isn't aware of, but it is good that they are showing bricklaying and tiling.

I don't know how they find time to renovate when they are always having challenges!?

The navy blue team is awesome, I'm cheering for them!

Keenan is also some nice eye candy....

Hi Miss V

I know what you mean about the decorating but I think you might find that most viewers would tune out if it were all about how to erect stud walls, lay bricks and use a nailgun. The challenges really are necessary as it's an elimination contest after all :)

Will be interesting to see who goes tonight- its then down to only one team of 4 (the blue Terrace team) so everyone's going to have to work harder from here on in!

That was Kim's problem - she didn't "accept" the challenge - she demand that she take it on, and then demanded it be done her way when other's suggested that maybe it wasn't working, and demanded that it would be fine - right up until the moment the rest of the team stood up to her and said "no" ... and then they were left with 15 mins to make something else.

She was the same with the paint she mixed wrong in a previous challenge. Refused to listen when she was shown the paint was the wrong colour - demanding that it was the right colour regardless of it not matching the swatch. Then when she was proven wrong by Lisa mixing the right colour, she carried on with a sob story about no being supported by her team etc

Same with the deck ... she was advised what she needed to do, rejected any help, didn't listen and ploughed on with her own way - then tried to shift the blame when she was told by Rob that her deck was not right.

She was similar with the coffee table construction with insisting she knew "right" when she knew squat - in fact she's been a hinderance to the team the whole way thru.

Actually - I thought Bob's kitchen was worse. Unfinished like Kim's and no styling ... but I am sure the decision was made before the challenge even started.

Asides from that ... wasn't Richards kitchen wow! Not to keen on the checks but a zillion streets ahead of the others with the rest.

I caught the end of the show and i liked the picnic wall, as one of the judges said It made me feel like it was food time :)

With the rest you mention about Kim, i havent been paying attention to the challenges that closely but it does ring true with some of the bits I have seen, i recall that purple mixing episode that she haf a huff saying it was right when it wasnt.

Hi Lizzie

I think you mean Peter's kitchen :D

Soo glad Michael and Jarrad won a working bee at their little house- he truly gives 100% so he deserves a helping hand this time. Hubby was drooling over the big BBQ in last night's episode- what is it with men and their BBQ's?!!

LOL! It's not just BBQ's where they think size matters.

Ooh, and for those with dirty minds, I was thinking along the line of car engines etc. ;)

Yes, I'm glad Michael won the working bee, although he only gets half the contestants as the other half will be in elimination. Still better than nothing.

I enjoyed watching last night as it was directly relevent to what I would like to do with our new PPOR so it was great to get some ideas and inspiration.

The Farmer Wants a Wife producers played on this to the extreme the other night. Each of the girls of one farmer commented on hearing that the farmer had a long one (edited for all the viewers with dirty minds :)). It was only on the last girl that they played the full conversation - he had a 22km long driveway.

sorry - yes - Peter's kitchen.

Was really sad to see Lisa go last night. She was a real personality - lively, bubbly, positive, just really nice and knows here styling stuff. Didn't want to see Bob go either - pity Cathy was to good for them.

She too is nice - but not in the same fab way as Lisa and Bob. Bit of a shock for Peter - team of four down to team of two in one week!

Love the show, and was very sad to see Lisa go last night, she really got in and gave things a go! Looking forward to see what the guys at the fibro cottage can do, they are definitely my favorite!

Thank god she is gone, but maybe males saw her different to females. I'll duck for cover now :D She was either 150% confident/cocky, or an emotional mess when under pressure. She was always talking to herself - oh dear I have never done this before, oh dear this or oh dear that. She dressed like she was going to a party, not to get her fingernails dirty. I had to laugh when Baz called her out in her frilly orange dress and orange gloves to put some base coat on the stud wall segment. I was so hoping she would get some on her dress :D

As a decorator she was very good, as a renovator..... what was she doing on a renovating show if she can't put up brackets for a curtain rod. She even stated she was better with a hand bag than a hammer!!!!

I think the curtain challenge was a B.S challenge for a renovating show. Can you imagine a challenge with two houses side by side, exactly the same and requiring a reno. Who do you think would win between a curtain specialist and someone with renovating skill. Luckily it was only the first round and the flat pack bed was a reasonable challenge for a renovating show - exclude ability to fit sheets. Flat pack bed or kitchen cupboards - same skill/ability required, but not exactly gyprocking a wall, tiling or building a deck.

I think there is too much chance of good renovators being eliminated by challenges that would make little difference in ability to renovate a house - but that is the show.

I think this could be it. On the few times that Hubby has sat with me to watch, he has mentioned that she was annoying. Although I understand his reasoning, I didn't see her in the same way.

Agreed! Completely pointless! I can sew & yet I haven't once been tempted to make curtains. Why on earth would you when you can buy them at low prices?

I dislike sewing too

Why on earth would you when you can buy them at low prices?

So you can alter the hem length.

I have noted on quite a few makeover shows that the curtains hang on the floor, it is better IMHO to have the curtains just off the floor so they don't get dirty when pulled or stood on.

Sewing is a simple basic home decorating skill. Personally I found it hard to believe a home decorator, designer or stylist didn't know how to use a sewing machine.

So you can alter the hem length.

Isn't that what pins are for :D ?

Actually, I can sew - and pretty okay enough to make curtains, but I too wouldn't bother.

Also found it a bit strange that as a designer she didn't know how to sew - I'd have thought it part of their stock trade from very early days in the business.

As for yakking to herself - ahem - she's not the only one ... ... confuses the heck out of my builder as he's not sure if I'm talking to him or not.

I closed my sewing machine years ago but I'm sure the skill would return if I had to thread a bobbin :D

What did you think of those lights last night? Always hard to tell on TV but I was surprised the orange team came bottom..... Peter's face said it all!

I thought the bamboo birdcage was hideous. That should have definately been last. The orange one I didn't much like either, but then again I wasn't impressed with any of them.

but then again I wasn't impressed with any of them.

None of them did it for me either although I did think the most suitable one did win ... what I want to know is how some teams get down to 1 hour left and haven't even started (ie, green team). WTF were they doing for the last 3 hours!

I thought Peter's light was hideous regardless of depth. Sad to see Bob go last night as he was one of life's gentlemen - would rather Mel went as she's rather annoying. I think Peter will end up with a new partner from one of the bigger teams, same as the khaki team did - until they all get down to 1-2.

Thanks Renovators for another great idea ... didn't want to tile all the way to the high ceiling in the ensuite bathroom as am using a dark tile - so instead will now wallpaper between tiles and ceiling in same white embossed wallpaper as the feature wall in master bedroom.

And thanks also showing me how to extend my window down to create a large operning without succumbing to the brick saw!

Man - I am getting so many ideas from this show!

It was lovely how they changed the window into french doors and it really opened the place up, I like it ! I was however surprise there was no mention of seeking building board approval to modify a window into the door or to check your shire council regulations for building modifications. Here in Darwin, we would need to have plans drawn up and then application submitted to the building board for approval and certification. Pain in the rear but nevertheless the regulations..

Cheers
