What is this design called?

Saw a lovely house on the market and was wondering what the feature in the photograph is called.

Advantages / disadvantages? Probably quite cold to heat in winter due to the glass; also gets hot in summer? Needs double glazing perhaps?

If we were to do a home build or extension with something like this for the lounge room, I'm guessing it needs to be architect designed?

From watching escape to the country I know it as a conservatory. Not sure if that's what it's called here though.

+1. Common in the UK and often built of glass - I bet the people who built it are expats :)

They aren't terribly good for Australia as they are designed to let sun in (mainly in winter) to provide a warm room.

Not really practical as a main lounge room.

Too much glare in the summer plus major overheating.

Almost impossible to keep warm in the winter unless the sun is out, even with double glazing.

Definitely a conservatory but what is the glazing below serving?

Depending on the orientation, shading & insulation, it can be a sauna in summer & freezer in winter.
