9 years of Somersoft on vBulletin

Just thought I'd mention that today is the 9th anniversary of the launch of Somersoft "version 3" - the vBulletin version of the forum which I set up for Ian.

Prior to running on vBulletin, Somersoft v2 was run on a "WebBoard" server for about 18 months (from March 2001) by Ian, before we outgrew the software and basically broke it!

The first version of Somersoft was a custom written forum that Ian put together himself - I believe it started in around September 1999 (I didn't become a member until around mid-2000).

That makes the Somersoft forums 12 years old this month too!

I joined SS in late 1999 when Ian started the first board. Seems just like yesterday.

Happy birthday SS and thank you Ian & Jan for providing us this invaluable forum.

I came across this forum in 2000 and have found it invaluable. Time flies when you're having fun :D
Thank you so much Jan & Ian and of course so many others who are involved in the operation and maintenance of the forum. It's been crucial to our wealth building plans.
Cheers
Elizabeth

Happy birthday Somersoft

Joint around 2004-5 and still not early enough !!!!!!!

Happy birthday Somersoft. Thanks for the knowledge (and the Ms of equity value ) I have acquired.

Happy VD everyone!!! :D

Joined the original forum soon after it hit the "World Wide Web" as it was called back then through my 56K modem with flashing led and made screeching squawking noises (a lot like my wife) when connecting.

This would have been in late 1998 with original notables sush as "The Wife", "Les", "Pierre" and a fella called "Rixter" all long before "Dazz" hit us like a tonne of bricks in his subtle way... and I think Nathan was just popping his first pubescent zit in the bathroom mirror.

Bought my 2nd IP through T.I.C. back then.......God I was so naive!!

Now 12 yrs later we get the keys to 3 x townhouses in Dec we developed on a block after knocking down an old house as IPs #10, 11 & 12.

Somersoft Forum is the best porn going!!!

Ian.

Happy days....a valuable resource and sounding board for me at the turn of the century.

Good old support from experienced investors with no trolling whatsoever in the early days.

I was a member on the old original board too.

As a forum lurker going back to around the start of Ver 3, I can say only one thing: This forum's posters removed any doubt in my mind that little folk (like me) could indeed have a red hot go at it.

Certainly does not feel like 7-8 years ago that I first found this place.. Not sure if it feels like a few months or a lifetime ago though? :D

I'm another that has been around nearly as long as the forum. I found it back in 1999 (I think), although I didn't post much at all back then. When it changed to the VBulletin my posts got lost, but that's fine, there wasn't a whole lot of them anyway.

I well remember "The Wife" and many others. Shame to see them move along, but in there absense we have many newer posters of well standing.

They shouldn't have - all of the posts from WebBoard were brought across and many of the posts from the original forum were manually brought across by Mike.

I was able to associate WebBoard posts from many users with their new vBulletin user accounts, but only if the user either used the same email address on both forums, or if they told me (when I asked) what their new address was so that I could match the users together.

I'm guessing all of your old posts (from WebBoard) are still here: http://www.somersoft.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17 ... but without your name on them?

Happy Birthday vBulletin Board

The dates we migrated from the previous format are all within a day or so of each other

I am Member #20 with a join date of 1st March, 2001, but Sim is Member #1 with a join date of 2nd March, 2001

I, too, was posting before this version but could not remember exactly when I first logged in, on the suggestion of two Buyer's Agent customers of mine.

When I joined I was one of the pioneering Buyer's Agents in Victoria, but in 2003 went to a Property Investors' Meeting where a mortgage broker gave a short presentation as to what a broker actually does, and shortly after started looking for who would train me as a Mortgage Broker? So Somersoft has been very important for me, not just as a place to discuss what is very close to my heart - people and property - but also because of Somersoft I now do what I do.

So Happy Birthday Somersoft. 9 Years of this easy to use Board has been one of life's delights, for me!

Cheers
Kristine
