Lets Talk Diamonds

That's what my next ring will be. Their stones are incredibly good, and even experts have difficulty distinguishing them from mined diamonds.

Why not, some of their designs are absolutely amazing.

Also, some time ago now, but I read that this store/franchise was one of the most successful in Australia, I am not surprised.

They're cubic zirconias. You can buy them from any jewellery store. They have quite a big mark up at Shh Secrets. Many people mistake them for lab created diamonds which they not - good quality lab diamonds (that many experts can't differentiate from real diamonds) cost thousands of dollars.

Nice.:)
My aunty/uncle have a jewellery store in Padua, Veneto, but they don't specialise in diamonds.
I just got back from Hong Kong, I really should have checked out diamonds, I suspect cheaper.

Yes, you're right: in Italy they use the 18kt gold but generally not diamonds. My parents are from Bassano, just up the road from Padua.

Cash converters - anything I have ever seen and been a long time now, always very ugly, dated, daggy.

That's why I suggested you buy from a cash converters or antique shop just for the diamond itself and then have it reset to your own design :D.

If your relatives don't sell diamonds they probably have contacts in the trade. Could they arrange a good quality diamond for a good price?

Also, if I was looking for a diamond now, I'd probably go "fake". One less thing to worry about if I lose it.

For many its a personal decision.

I am sure I will be flacked like mad for it.

But my suggestion is a genuine Tiffany ring.
They are very beautiful, and the premium that one pays is not that much.

These are not spontaneous purchases, they are life long.

As least with a genuine Tiffany ring the 'wasp game' is reduced (yeah yours is bigger, but I take comfort in the fact that mine is a genuine Tiffany ring).

For myself it has been a fantastic relationship pacifier. Best money I ever spent.

Very high IV because of its durational brand appeal, lol.

I designed my wife's engagement ring myself, sent the design to Dubai, they made it and I paid and picked it up. I paid less than $5k, insurance value was $18k. I stuffed up, and should have gone for a cheaper ring IMO.

My advice is buy diamonds below 1 carat (say 0.98), at 1 carat the price jumps for no appreciable reason except perception.

Personally, I wouldn't go for a Tiffany because the mark-up is just too high. They're known for their quality, but you can get quality diamonds and settings for much cheaper. The one thing I like about Tiffany's is that all of their diamonds are ethically sourced, they do not use 'blood diamonds'. There are cheaper ways to get a quality ethically-sourced diamond though.

Maybe I'm just suffering tall poppy syndrome. Even if I wanted a Tiffany's ring, there is no chance in hell of being able to afford it :)

Nice jewellery... but

This is a store where I get one of those "Pretty Woman" moments..... if you get what I mean.

Insurance, many say this is expensive and it can be but I use GIO and they are very reasonable, just have to have the valuation, description and have it valued every couple of years to keep it up to date.

I went into the Tiffany store to see what they had and had to go into a secure room to see their 2ct diamond ring and it was over $100k and it was a G colour!
Insane market for a not fantastic stone. And you can't make any changes to the design.

I agree that Tiffany's jewellery is overpriced but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a G colour stone. Most face up pretty white and it'd be much better to go for a well cut G coloured diamond than an average cut E colour. Most people would prefer the G in this instance if they were judging purely on appearance as it would have more sparkle and look bigger, even if they were the same carat weight

I don't mind G, considered it for myself but selling it at 100k - ludicrous

Depends on what purpose you'r getting the diamond for MTR. For example, if you are getting an 1 carat diamond, you can get one much cheaper at 0.98 than 1.02 karats. but the resale value is obviously gonna be much less too because "it's less than 1 karat". same goes with 0.48 v.s 0.52. but I guess if you're getting it for anniversary or something like that resale value wouldn't be that much of a consideration. in that case i'd get a slightly smaller one (as you can't tell from the naked eye anyway) and use the saved money for a better clarity and colour diamond.
