What's the secrecy?

why does it bother you so much anyway? got nothing else to talk about?

the topic is tasteless in nature as most people want to find out to either judge or compete with them from their own insecurities (as evident in some of these posts)

my real friends find out these things about me after a more meaningful relationship has been established...

As said in this thread, I have worked with a guy who now works for ASIO and is under strict instructions not to tell anyone. I only found out talking to a very close friend of his.

So, clearly he told "someone" :D and therefore perhaps he's not quite understanding what "strict instructions not to tell anyone" actually means :D.

In a former life, I used to dig holes for a living. Yeah, fascinating, I know.

At parties, when people would ask what I did, it was a brilliant way of killing a conversation stone dead.

Sometimes the evasiveness and secrecy comes from the fact your job is as boring as bat**** and frankly, there are 400 other things better to talk about.

We used to be wrapped up in confidentiality clauses etc....seriously, the lawyers need to get over themselves.

After 18 years of digging holes, the shovel wasn't the only thing that retired.

I once say a real estate sales contract that wrapped the buyer up in non disclosure clauses to the point where they almost couldn't tell people their new address. It was one of the units from 'The Block'. The special conditions went on for 80 pages. It mentioned nothing about other third parties being able to discuss the particulars of sale.

Ultimately it was little more than a standard sale at auction in Victoria, with the contents of the property included. Once people got over the 'celebrity' status of the property, there was not much too it, other then a bunch of lawyers with over inflated egos.

I think that many people who hint that they can't disclose something are really just trying to seek a bit of attention. Most classified work is technically no different from non-classified work. Anything technically cutting edge that I saw in IT was actually in the private sector.

They obviously didn't know the right question to ask to get you to open up.

"Who did you put into those holes?"

There could be many reasons why she won't/can't disclose and perhaps there are reasons why these "hints" are dropped too. You seem quick to judge given you don't actually know what she does, or her reasons for not disclosing.

She could be under instruction, or maybe she's trying to throw you way off the track with suggestions that point in the opposite direction for others reasons.

Maybe she kills people for a living.

Maybe she's a stripper.

Or a fluffer.

Or hunts whales.

Or is working on bringing down Islam.

You get the drift. I hope.

I remember going to a gentleman's entertainment club many years ago on a buck's night and saw a girl I worked with getting her gear off. I told her she was a great dancer and should be proud of her body, and didn't tell anyone at work.

Very admirable.

People might need to work a second job for a whole host of reasons, from needing extra cash for a specific reason like sick kids/friends etc, to secret debt/habit etc, to self express etc.

If people want to tell, they will themselves. It's not up to you to 'out' their personal business.

Kudos

Spot on. One might get a job in a fast food outlet for example, not only to earn that extra bit of cash, that always comes in handy, but also for the free food. Maybe the delicious chicken nuggets!

Most prostitutes working in brothels and call girls that visit your home are uni students and single mum's that need extra cash when the rent or some other bill is due. Fredrik Eklund did gay porn before making it as a REA. In Thailand there is a grey area where office and mall girls will go out once or twice a month to prostitute themselves when the rent is due.

I worked my *** off in fast food outlets while in uni. If I could have earned the same income from getting my gear off one night a week in a place where no-one could actually touch me, I would have probably done it in a heartbeat.

I might've done the same if I was a pretty girl.
Can't blame the ones who do it.. easy money.
