It's called ideallism, dreamland. And yes; trendyism.
Many very highly educated people live their lives inside, looking at books and not getting out into the real world for a look around. You could argue the same thing about highly intelligent people believing in someone living up in the clouds, and a bloke who was dead for a few days in a cave and came back to life. Now, seriously.
People who work out doors - tradies, farmers, country folk, cops, fireys, ambo's and the like; in general are not your nutty, artsy, tree-hugging left. They are not fanatics or "emo's".
Country folk are down to earth. Inner-city types are not down to earth. How can anyone who chooses to live in concrete, noise, traffic, smog, lights, ridiculous fashions and wear knitted scarves (male and female) when it's not really cold be down to earth/realistic?
Country folk are more down to earth as a rule, and are not sucked into the latest trend of anything (except maybe a pair of moleskins, some RM Williams boots and an Akubra). They don't talk BS and don't carry on like
[email protected] as a rule. They are not into keeping up with the Jones as a rule.
Proof of this is your country dude and dudess would not be seen dead in a cycadelic lycra riding outfit with matching clip-in shoes, helmet and riding gloves, riding around looking for a latte stand on a sunday, and are over 50 years old.
I'm all for saving whales and growing trees, but keep it all in perspective kids. The Greens would have us all living in caves.
