Hot enough for ya???11

...as a Landlord, I love the hot dry weather...actually, hot / cold doesn't matter to me - just as long as it is dry.

During the winter months, whingy phone calls regarding water leaks keeps us busy all the time.

Big heavy downpours are the worst, when the guttering system simply can't handle the water run off.

2 minute phone call from Tenant = 2 days of work for Landlord.

Dry for the next 5 years, sounds good to me.

Two were English, the rest Aussies.

It's not cherry picked at all; 100% hit rate of adults under the age of 25 in one room.

That's just one example as I said; I could give you millions of examples - just spending one afternoon down at the Dromana/Rosebud/Rye piers at the moment, where hundreds of teenagers congregate during theses summer holidays to jump off the pier, socialise and generally hang out.

The % of those kids having a choof is mind boggling; given the ads, and widely available info around the world these days.

We'll just agree to disagree on those tv ads' success; if they were truly successful, no kids would be taking up the ridiculous habit, or drink/driving, and so on.

I say give up the ridiculous tv ads, and get out to the schools and educate them at an earlier age that way. I know it is done already to a small degree; but nowhere near enough.

so you expect a 100% success rate in order for something to be deemed successful?

i agree, lets agree to disagree

btw, some light bedtime reading for you.

http://www.cancercouncil.com.au/319.../statistics-on-smoking-in-australia/?pp=36576

"Why have smoking rates among the general population declined so dramatically over recent decades?

It is likely that the decline in smoking rates during recent decades has occurred as a result of concerted and sustained government tobacco control strategies such as high tobacco taxes, advertising bans, mass media public education campaigns and smoke-free environments legislation."

http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/Lookup/4364.0.55.001chapter4202011-12
In 2011-12, there were 2.8 million Australians aged 18 years and over who smoked daily (16.3%). This rate has decreased consistently over the past decade, from 18.9% in 2007-08 and 22.4% in 2001. Decreases in smoking rates have occurred across all age groups, and particularly amongst people aged under 45 years.

cool story bro but statistics > cherry picked examples

besides, im not sure how 4 english smokers can come into a discussion about effectiveness of australian anti smoking ads

Everyone who works at the Roadhouse here smokes..except us and the chef.
It was the very same last year.
Maybe they should double the price of smokes.
It would be nice if they could find another vehicle to ingest their drug..nicotine.

There were not many smokers in my workplace when I worked in IT. The smokers that were there were more from the user staff. That would fit in with smoking appealing more to the lower socio economic groups- I don't know if that is borne out statistically.

My wife used to work in a workplace where the smokers formed a tight community. They would stand outside and talk, quite often about the non smokers. The CEO and the mailboy were a part of this group.

The smokers in the same workgroup kept together. One member of the group would regularly harass my wife, supported by the other smoker- before workplace harassment became a more well known thing- until she finally reacted and got into trouble for showing anger in the workplace. The other smoker told the boss that my wife had not been provoked in any way.

Dont know about this Geoff.I am a smoker, and dont fit the socio group you are suggesting. In fact, out of the 3 kids at present who can legally smoke....none of them do.Must be the ear bashing i give them about the health risks.

It doesn't mean that higher than average income people don't smoke. Just that the percentage is lower.

It is the case in England as shown by research. I don't know if it's the case in Australia- but every time they raise taxes on cigarettes people complain that it hits the poorer people more than the better off. This may just be because of the percentage of income.

I'm at the Gold Coast. It's as dry as I've ever seen it here. The grass was dead months ago and is slowly turning to dust.

We got a day of drizzle a few days ago. People were saying how good it was that it finally rained. There was only 2 mills in it, so it did nothing. I've had more rain at home on my farm than there's been here in the last few months.

See ya's.

Still in sydney and a few light drizzle but where I live in VIC we are in extended summer dry.

Technically, this is normal that vic has wet springs and dry summers but after the last 2 years of flooding it feels weird.

Regards Peter

It's just starting here on the GC. Lucky we are going home tomorrow, as there is 100's of mills forecast and days of rain, but they need it though.

I'm forecast to get a bit at home on the farm. 100 mills would be great, but not likely.

Do you think there's any chance of us getting some further south?

Computer models have the big rain finishing at about Newcastle, and mostly coastal. I'd think inland and south of Newy there mightn't be much. But it will still be cooler and wet.

Anyway, who wants 300 or 400 mills like they are getting up north and are possibly going to get here on the Gold Coast? That much rain is just damaging to everything. Here's hoping we get 50 mills or so eh?

See ya's.

I hope you get your desired rain TC. The GC could do with at least 50 up to 100 (hopefully not in one massive dump). The Broadbeach parklands are yellow and parched.

5 mm a day for 10 days would suit me beautifully. I'm in Canberra, so I suspect it will still be fairly dry, even if a little cooler.

Well, last evening we happened to be under a small cell that delivered 60mls.
Not sure it it got at your way TC as it looked so small on the radar and ranged from about Quirindi out to Breeza and then just vanished.

Couldn't believe the amount that fell but verified with the neighbours gauge.:)

Looks like the campers on the river at Tamworth Country Music festival better be prepared to move.

Send some our way Fence ... my dams are nearly dry.

Had a few days of great soaking rain but the ground was so dry that it was all sucked up and no runoff to fill the dams.

Even with the new place - having a 5mgl irrigation licence for the vineyard (63,000/mth) - the dam is dropping faster than it's filling

I was involved with an outside event being broadcast on live tv this morning - we have been nervously watching the weather all week, with thunderstorms forecast.

Big black clouds rolled in this morning and we were very nervous, few random drops about 30 mins prior - but luckily it all passed without a shower. It can now rain as much as it likes! Bring on the thunderstorms!

Not good stuff, It is very dry. I wonder how long before the Climate Change Fanatics will get on board with D & G.

Yep; 35 here on Thursday, and huge downpour during the night last night with showers and low 20's today. Massive climate change right there....we're all doomed.

Now that it's been so hot and dry everywhere. I wonder if they'll re-badge it as Global Warming again?
