The Block

It's turned into another version of the Amazing Race (or whatever it's called). Shame. Bring on the renos and decorating already!

I agree, what does running around looking for little houses got to do with renovating a house. It's just one long advert, I didn't think it could get any worse than last week, I was wrong & I don't see it getting any better.

Thanks goodness a new (free to air) series of British Grand Designs starts on the weekend - can't remember if it's Sat or Sun at 7,30pm on ABC

Yes, that is great.

Have you seen 'Escape to the country'. Not as good as grand designs, but still a very good show. The last episode there was 3 pommie properties for the people to choose, acreage, with massive houses, two were converted old farm barns, but done magnificently, and one was a new build. All had massive kitchens, and stuff for horses and yards. Seemed to be very good value to me. One was on 11 acres. They were about 700 to 800 thousand pounds.

This show was done in 2008, so maybe it was a repeat?

See ya's.

I wish they did some kind of classes each week, like on Master Chef they have a weekly Master Class with an amazing chef. They could do the same type of thing except with amazing interior designers or architects etc?

I agree what a great idea. Tuesday's show was to advertise, promote and market the shops they went to but it ended with a BIG BROTHER bang a way of creating artifical conflict which stirs up the contestants emotions.

Now I like seeing how people react...

In the adds I turned over to Switzer on Austar.

Cheers

I watched an episode yesterday. Most of the show is filler with very little renovating and decorating. And the contestants, with their nasally voices are their OH EM GEEs, are fairly punchable. Never again.

I will watch Grand Designs this weekend, though. I've never seen it but it sounds infinitely better than The Block.

I'm a fan of 'Escape to the Country' too. It gives me a giggle though - I've never been to the UK but watching this show really makes me appreciate how young and new everything in Australia really is. eg. I find it funny when the agent says something like, "This beautiful, very modern property underwent a total renovation just 40 years ago..." LOL! Given the 'property' is probably over 400 years old, I suppose that IS fairly recent :D.

YAHOO!!

I'll be there. :D

With index finger poised on the remote for the ads...

oh; there aint any!

as a relative newcomer to Foxtel, I've been gorging on British property porn. I have more Escape to the Country, Grand Designs (Oz and UK), Homes under the Hammer, DIY SOS (a particular favourite... :)), Jamie Durie's Outdoor Room and Property Ladder (and probably a few others) recorded than I could ever watch. Fast forward the ads, sit back and enjoy.
This is why I never wanted to get Foxtel, I knew this would happen . Now I'll be paying for it for ever!

Sounds great, Tuppy! I'm jealous! No Foxtel or complete series DVDs in this house :(it seems that hubby and I still can't stop being tight butts with money ;). I've had to settle for the seven2;) re-runs of 'Escape to the Country' and the ABC's repeats of 'Grand Designs'. Still enjoyable none the less. Glad to hear that there's a new series of 'GDs' about to start.

The exact reason I won't get Foxtel. Friends have it and when we went to stay for a week earlier in the year I was glued to the TV from around 4.30pm til midnight!

ps. I also enjoy Escape to the Country, but laugh when they oooh and ahhh at the 'huge' living area - that is about the size of my Walk in Robe! :D

Okay - now I've definiately "gone off" the block ... Chaz (aka Cheryl) the ditzy, doesn't know what she's talking about real estate agent from last series is back! Noooooooo ....

They have also bought back the two tradies (can't call them fat anymore!) to inject some personality. Must be because the current group of contestants are as bland as white bread.

When you think back to last series there was Jake and Erin the dinks (loved their rooms), Chaz and her other half (ditz and under the thumb), the two fat tradies and the hard working couple with kids ... a really interesting bunch who you could really get into.

This bunch are all too similar in looks, personality and style imo.

The Wife's not a fan of the Challenges on the Block and has decreed we won't be watching those

She just wants to see them get into the guts of the reno's

Hi Tuppence
Yes can't it be addictive? The trouble is that by the time I get to sit down to watch all the shows I've recorded there's way too many to get through....

Watch out for the Aussie version of Relocation Relocation coming soon to Lifestyle- should be a great show with Australian buyers agents!

It has lost me with the filming of sister having her nails done, I could watch daytime tv to see this, the whole thing is manipulated. How long does it take to get a permit to build new rooms out the back? It has obviously been planned with council permission granted from months ago, and tradies will be doing it else they are not going to get approvals for hairdressers banging up walls. As for the time involved, come on, one week to do it and they have spent 2 days finding red houses, trying out keys, and other crap. Boooring!!!

I'll go against the trend and say I am enjoying The Block! Hope they show us more when the rooms are revealed.

We (on this forum) are die hard property renovators and or property developers so we have a different mind set, the show's producers need to also cater for the novices and the dreamers.

I don't pay any money to watch The Block as on free to air TV so I will sit through the adds as someone has to pay the staff's wages.

Only problem is that the show is advertised as 7 o'block and the programme is on at 7.30pm.

Regards
Sheryn
