It seems that some time on Friday afternoon, we passed the 1,000,000 post mark here on Somersoft.
It is pretty much impossible to determine which was the millionth post, since deleted spam posts, duplicate posts and such, all make it very difficult to calculate.
Every post has a unique ID associated with it, and these IDs increment automatically with each new post. We actually passed the post with the ID 1000000 back in February, but that wasn't really the millionth legitimate post.
The best I can calculate (and it is a bit of a guess), is that this post from Propertunity at 3:40pm EST on Friday was the millionth post.
I've created chart showing posts per month since the beginning of the Webboard version of the forum (Somersoft v2) in March 2001. It took us 39 months (just over 3 years) to reach 100,000 posts, and then less than 2 years (ie 23 months) to reach 200,000 posts.
500,000 posts came in 96 months (8 years from launch of Webboard version) and 1,000,000 posts has taken us 147 months (12 years, 3 months).
At our current average of around 10,000 posts per month, it should take us 100 months (8 years, 4 months) to reach 2,000,000 posts.
Of course, if we just let people talk about politics and religion as much as they wanted, we would probably be at 5,000,000 posts already
