What do you do?

I'm way below Joe Average. I don't come up to the standard of a school teacher, I'm a teacher's aide instead. I used to work in a bank when I was a young puppy.

Im just a dumb dirty mechanic.
work fifo so it is money for jam really.
But I repair the biggest machinery in the world so that keeps it interesting

The sooner my investment plan comes together the better i say.

cheers

What do i really do?

Hiya

This is a very uncomfortable question when people ask me what do i do:eek:

I am a stay at home mum (i hate this term btw) but my hubby earns and i invest for him :) i have bought, renoed, built and created a small passive income from rents...

My last kid enters high school next year and my mum in law (who lives overseas) asks me disdainfully what do i really DO with my spare time? i really had to bite my tongue...it will really freak her out if she knows what i have made her son do...

My hubby calls me a plotter....but what do i say in social situations???Any suggestions?:p

Tell them you are an Independant Investment Manager. Either that or that you are a russian spy and now that they have found out, you will have to kill them.

Private fund director / daily *** kicker

People that look down on stay at home parents don't understand the impact it can have.

Had a cold caller phone from OS a few months back asking what we did for a living.

I said I was a male nude model and my wife was a porn star.

They did not skip a beat asking more probing questions about those jobs.

Goodness knows why they wanted to know what computer and operating system Scott Steed and Susie Scotch used.

:p

Varies - depending on the day of the week.

Most week days, I'm a cold call salesman going from door to door....or if the boss wants a meeting, sitting in an office twiddling my thumbs.

On Wednesday's, I take a break from selling to clean toilets, paint out graffiti and scrub floors. I like Wednesdays. No cold call selling.

The weekends are always out selling as well, when most people are at home. You get abused a lot more of course, but it's so much nicer than an empty house.

Haha Rixter trust me man :D

52/2 so 26 weeks of working on a equal time roster

So 7 days in 1 week and 12 hrs a day

7x12 = 84hrs a week

26 weeks of work

84x26 = 2184

Its 26 weeks total work or 13 blocks if you want to make it more complex I used to get 20 days holiday a year. So I only worked 23 weeks :D

Flying in and out on their time or yours?

I consider us Joe Average. Basically a tradie and spouse. He earns it and I invested it while raising the kiddies. We were on 35k when we bought the first IP in 2000 and most were bought before we ever cracked 100k as self-employed. probably only the last 2 when we were really well off.
We work the same as Virgo :D (MIL tells everyone what a great investor her son is  he didn't even see half of them until they settled!)

Currently I'm working 3 different part-time gigs:

1. Domestic violence solicitor at a community legal centre
2. Managing solicitor of a tenancy advice line
3. Associate lecturer at a law school

Used to be a mechanic.
Used to be an electrical mechanic.
Used to be a TV, video repair man.
Used to be a stay at home dad for a several years. They were great years with plenty of time to do renovations and best of all highly rewarding voluntary community work.
Now I own a couple of clothing retail stores but have recently slowed down a bit using passive income to help pay the bills. Old age catching up with me so the bodies not as good as it used to be.

Not an overabundance of a plumber, a nurse, a teacher, a fiery, lifeguard, cop, etc.

Surely there are some Joe Averages out there who invest?

When it comes to the other-half and myself, we are Joe Average, BV. We are out there. I know plenty of real estate investors who work in the above occupations. Retail and emergency services.

Don't get me started on the "Used-to"s
